The Rules To Wearing Button Down Shirts

One of the most misused words in mens fashion is "button-down". Many men think they know what it is, but use it for almost any shirt with buttons on the front. However, those buttons on the front of your shirt has nothing to do with this phrase. This phrase, however refers to the collars of a particular shirt. Button-down shirts have buttons on the collars that secure each side of the collar to the shirt's front panel.

When those buttons on the collar are not there, the shirt is rather called button-front shirt.

Now that we are all on the same page about the meaning of button down shirt, let us discuss the role it plays in mens fashion.

Rules For Wearing Button Down Shirts

This is why you should never use this shirts with suits or ties.

This eliminates specific events in life that this type of shirt can be worn. For instance, it should never be worn to a job interview, in an office environment where ties are required, at a job interview, to a wedding, or to a funeral (yes, even your own.)
